💡 Grammar Points

  1. Particles (조사) — No equivalent in English!

    • Korean uses small particles AFTER nouns to show their role in a sentence.
    • 에서 (e-seo) = location particle meaning “in” or “at”
    • Example: 한국에서 = “in Korea” / 일본에서 = “in Japan”
  2. Subject dropping (주어 생략)

    • In Korean, the subject (I, you, he, etc.) is often dropped when it’s obvious from context.
    • This sentence has no 저는 (I), but it’s understood.
  3. Verb comes LAST (SOV word order)

    • English: I (S) am working (V) in Japan (O)
    • Korean: 일본에서 (in Japan) 직장 생활을 (work life) 하고 있습니다 (am doing)
    • ⚠️ Always look for the verb at the END of a Korean sentence!
  4. Present Progressive: ~하고 있습니다

    • 하고 있습니다 = “am doing” (formal)
    • Casual form: 하고 있어요
